What is different about exterior cleaning in eastern Lake Macquarie?
The lake on one side and the ocean on the other. Lake Macquarie is Australia's largest coastal lake, and the land between it and the sea is only a few kilometres wide along most of its length, so many homes here sit within reach of both. At the 2021 Census, 82.3% of occupied dwellings in the area were separate houses.
The City of Lake Macquarie has about 32 km of ocean coastline, with Dudley, Redhead, Blacksmiths, Caves Beach, Pinny Beach and Catherine Hill Bay along it. BlueScope's advice for Colorbond and other coated steel is to wash the parts rain never reaches, such as the underside of eaves and the tops of garage doors, at least every six months, and more often near the sea.
Wash water matters more beside a lake. The lake's water quality has improved as less sediment and fewer nutrients wash in with stormwater, and the NSW EPA's rule is that nothing from washing should go down a stormwater drain.
