What do Belmont's lakeside streets and unit blocks need?

The Awabakal name for the area, Bahtahbah, means hill on a lake. The village grew around the guest house Thomas Williamson built after selecting 100 acres here in 1865, which he named after his birthplace, and it only began to thrive once the road was fixed in the 1910s and the Pacific Highway came through in the 1920s. The Lewers Estate, between Ross Street on the water and Lewers Street, was subdivided in 1916.

At the 2021 Census, 69.8% of occupied homes were separate houses, 12.8% townhouses or semi-detached and 14.8% flats. Unit blocks are strata schemes, where the owners corporation is responsible for the common property, including the paths and driveways that pressure washing would clean; a freestanding home near the lake can have its walls and eaves cleaned with a house wash.
