What do Boolaroo's older town houses need?
Boolaroo was founded as a village in 1829 and proclaimed a town in 1896, and its name is said to mean place of many flies. A lead and zinc smelter operated here until 12 September 2003, and the site has since been cleared. Its cinema was partly destroyed in the 1989 earthquake, and a small strip of the suburb fronts the lake itself.
Most homes are freestanding houses, many on streets far older than the newer lake suburbs around them. Older tiles hold moss and lichen in their joints, and Monier advises against cleaning tiles with a pressure washer, so roofs here get a low-pressure soft wash, while walls and eaves get a house wash.
