What should Hillsborough's post-war houses be washed with?
The coal turned out too poor to sell, so the mine was abandoned in 1879 and the town soon after. The suburb's homes date from the redevelopment that followed the war, and the public school opened in 1963. In 2021, 96.2% of occupied dwellings were separate houses.
SafeWork NSW warns that fibro made with asbestos cement, widely used between the 1940s and the late 1980s, is never to be cleaned with a high-pressure spray, so walls from those years get a soft wash only. Tiled or metal roofs are cleaned the same way, with solution at low pressure.
