The Burwood No. 3 Colliery opened in 1888, ran for almost a century as one of Australia's great coal producers and closed in 1982. The white bridge was later replaced by a concrete one, now part of Dudley Road, and the old rail line became the Fernleigh Track, whose Kahibah to Whitebridge stage opened in 2005.
