What do Fassifern's homes near the station and the bay need?

The Northumberland Colliery, within walking distance of the station, was renamed Newstan in 1950 and worked until 2014; the mine is now being investigated for pumped-storage hydroelectricity. The first school opened in 1922. The suburb fronts Fennell Bay, a small bay with mangroves and she-oaks on its shores, and has large areas of native bush to the north and west.

Of the occupied homes counted in 2021, separate houses were 83.9%, and townhouses or semi-detached homes another 11.6%. Driveways and paths are pressure washed with a setting chosen per surface, walls and roofs get a soft wash, and the NSW EPA requires the wash water to stay out of stormwater drains that lead to the bay.
