How are Waratah's terraces, units and older houses cleaned?
The name goes back to a house finished by 1848 for Charles Simpson, who named it after the native shrubs growing thickly around it. The station opened in 1858, Waratah was incorporated as a municipality in 1871, and the Calvary Mater hospital was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1921. Once a working-class area, it has been widely gentrified since the early 2000s.
Housing is mixed: at the 2021 Census, 62.5% of occupied dwellings were separate houses, 19.4% townhouses or semi-detached and 17.4% flats, and 46.4% of homes were rented. In blocks of units the owners corporation is responsible for common property under NSW strata law. Houses get a house wash and their paving a pressure clean.
