How did Morisset grow, and what do its homes need?

The town takes its name from Major Morisset, who camped here in 1823 on the first overland journey from Newcastle to Sydney and later ran the Norfolk Island prison; its spelling has wavered between Morissett, Morriset and others. There was almost no town until the Sydney to Newcastle railway arrived in 1887, when a sawmill town grew around the station.

A psychiatric hospital opened on a large lakeshore estate in 1908, and since the Eraring Power Station was built the peninsula east of the town has become the main residential area. In the suburb itself, 74.5% of occupied homes were separate houses in 2021 and 21.4% townhouses or semi-detached. Under NSW strata law the owners corporation maintains common property; a house gets a house wash, and paving a pressure wash set to the surface.
