What do Edgeworth's older and newer homes need?
The Young Wallsend Coal Company opened a colliery in 1890; it closed in the early 1900s, and its site was bulldozed in 1992 for a housing estate. The post office and school both opened in 1891, and the schoolteacher's residence is heritage listed. Piped sewerage came in 1959, and in 1960 the town took its present name in honour of a geologist who pioneered surveys of the Hunter Valley coal seams.
