What do Minmi's old mining town and newer estate homes need?
Coal was found here in 1835 and the first mines opened in 1848. Minmi reached about 6,000 residents in the 1900s, but from 1909 many mining families left for the better-paid Maitland coalfields, and open-cut mining ended in 1951. Residents won their land titles only in 1980; the land was rezoned in the 1990s and the Bonnie Doon Estate followed. The cemetery holds 598 graves, the oldest known from 1863.
In 2021, 97.4% of occupied homes were separate houses and 46.8% had four or more bedrooms. Roofs, old and new, are cleaned with a soft wash, and walls with a house wash relying on solution, not force.
