What is Eraring like beyond the power station?
The area was once renamed Newport in the hope of a port that was never built, and some farming followed. Construction of Eraring Power Station began in 1975 and finished in 1984, but most of its workers live in the surrounding suburbs, and the public school, open since 1924, closed in 2015 for lack of students. The 2021 Census counted 108 private dwellings, and 16.5% of them were unoccupied. Houses here take a soft wash for walls and roof.
