Why does wash water matter so much in Kulnura?

Kulnura was named in 1914 at a meeting of early pioneers, from an Aboriginal word said to mean in sight of the sea, or up in the clouds. It runs from Bloodtree Road in the south to the Great Northern Road in the north, it is fruit and cattle country, and it hosts the yearly Bloodtree Festival.

The dam inside its boundary can hold 190,000 megalitres of the region's water. Rinse water from cleaning a house, roof or driveway should never find its way into a drain or gully, because the NSW EPA points out that stormwater travels untreated into creeks and lakes. Nearly every Kulnura home is a separate house, 99.5% in 2021, and walls are cleaned with a low-pressure house wash while tiled or steel roofs get a soft roof wash.
